Well, I'd read a few comments about the "new" tracks that are available to download from NuWorld, but I didn't bother to get them myself for a while. This is partly because my home connection is so slow that by the time I had downloaded the tracks, Numan might have finished writing them. Anyway, I grabbed them whilst at Uni and had a listen to them.
Have to say that on the whole, I'm glad I didn't use my own machine, and therefore, phoneline - as this would have incurred some form of payment on my behalf. As it stands, it was only time that I had wasted. Well, my dissertation wasn't that good anyway. I doubt the extra five minutes spent doing this would make much difference.
Only two of the tracks actually worked once I had got them home to listen to. The one called "Jagged Halo" wouldn't play so at this time I can't comment on that one. As for "Haunted", I am. As for "Does God Bleed", he will if he listens to much "music" like this - he'll be slitting his wrists in no time. Both tracks show little advancement from "Pure", or in some respects even "Exile" or "Sacrifice". Don't get me wrong, I actually quite liked the "Pure" album, well most of it. The thing is, that was well over three years ago and these tracks sound to me like rejects from the same sessions. OK, I understand they are only demo's, but He has had a long time to come with something more interesting than these. Sometimes Numan's stuff grows on me, or at least worms its way into my subconscious, but the days of me waiting with eager anticipation for the new album so I could get a new fix are, I believe, well and truly over.
To Gary, I would like to offer my sincere condolances for His loss (of talent). It will be fondly remembered and always hold a place close to heart.
