NEWS

19th January 2000.

Well, somebody certainly seemed to upset Gary & co before Christmas, if Tony Webb's section on NuWorld was anything to go by! I was quite shocked by some of the things he wrote so I decided to have a look what it was all about. I checked out the AFENET section where fans send in their views etc., and was surprised to see some people REALLY having a go at Gaz. I know I take the piss on these pages, and some of what is said I do think is valid, but I never expected to read some of the comments that are on there.
Anyway, what have I been doing with myself since last time? Well the main reason that this is late is because I bought myself a new pencil and have been trying to integrate it into the rest of the office and get used to how it works!
I have also been doing a course in Upholstery and am pleased to announce that I am now a fully qualified Armchair Expert. A new section is under construction as you read this in which I will put Armchair Expert Reviews of whatever I feel like. Well, mostly Numan stuff.
The latest issue of ALIEN magazine is out now, I got mine just the other day. There is quite a big "Interview" section with Gary where he talks about his next album, fave bands etc.
Apparently, Gary has, to date, finished ONE song for his new album completely. It is the song that used to have the lyric to "FRIENDS" that Gary has been doing live in recent years. He also performed it on Tom Binn's Munchies on TV late last year, in case you didn't already know! He says it now has words about a child killer looking at his next victim or something. Sounds cheerful then!

13th November 1999.

Well it's here! The day of the concert. Mike R. Slides and Jeff The Waiter will be there in a little over 2 hours and when it's all over we will be first with a report at about midnight tonight. That is unless he does "Down in the Park" first again, in which case we will leave early and do the report by about 9-30pm. See ya later.

Well, we're back from Manchester Academy now and I am very disappointed to say that we actually enjoyed it! I was so looking forward to writing some really bad review as well! The support band were very good, which was a novelty in itself, and that got us in the mood then Gary came on and did Films first, followed by Me I Disconnect From You. This was quite a good start and took us by surprise, but an even bigger surprise was when he did Remember I Was Vapour.
Not got time to do a full set list yet, will maybe try later on when I'm not quite so Knackered! The last song of the century, and indeed this millennium, was.......Ade Eyeudye, or was it I Die: You Die? Well it went down a storm anyway. It certainly was worth going to, and it's the first time we have been able to say that since 1993. Some photo's were taken and if any of them are any good, they will be on the photo site as soon as possible.

Thanks to me having access to somebody else's computer, I am able to bring you this small bit of news.
The latest issue of ALIEN MAGAZINE, (formerly the Gary Numan Fan Club Newsletter) has now been delivered to some subscribers. It features part two of Tubeway Army-The Early Years, some bits of news which once again, aren't all to do directly with Gary, a piece about Terre Taemiltxzjhgfeujjxop, (I think that's how you say it) and once again, a slightly dodgy front cover. It appears to have been taken from a TV screen that had the new Cars video playing at the time.
Well, that's it really, if anyone has any more bits of news or items of interest you can e-mail me at..... Ha! You don't think I'm falling for that one do you?

14th October 1999.

The site updates will possibly be few and far between in the coming weeks as I am updating my computer and I'm really crap at that sort of thing!
Hope my millions of visitors will not get too depressed by this, I will be back before the new album is out, but then again, so might flares!

More CD releases have this week transpired...
The old "Radio Heart - featuring Gary Numan" album has been released and features the three songs that Gary did the vocals on in the late 1980's. It seems to be just the normal track listing with no extra twelve inch remix versions or the like, so at around £14 I find it a tad expensive. I did notice on the sleeve a small picture with something about "Nicholson/Numan - 1987-1994". There didn't seem to be any details about this, just a catalogue number, which I have conveniently forgotten! I can only assume this is the Radio Heart and Gary Numan tracks plus the Dadadang "Like A Refugee", which I quite liked by the way, so there's another thing you can slag me off for!
More news as it happens, or to be more honest, as soon as I find it out and can be bothered to put it on here.

17th September 1999.

Just a bit of news on some re-releases. IRS have finally put out their three Numan albums on CD. Metal Rhythm has single B-sides and the "New Anger" album remixes of some tracks. Outland has B-sides and My World Storm re-mixes, one of which is the US promo version which I didn't have! Actually, it isn't a lot different from the other versions. It seems to be a cross between the album version and the 12inch import mix. Shame has the Outland intro on it again, as it did on the Babylon CD's that came from the fan club. The Skin Mechanic does not appear to be any different from the original. There are certainly no extra tracks listed on the sleeve. This seems a bit of a wasted opportunity as I'm sure we would all prefer the FULL version of a concert than just edited highlights, which still aren't in the correct order I don't think.
Receiver Records also had a "NEW" CD out... A double compilation entitled, imaginatively, "Down In The Park". I didn't bother to buy it because it's just the same stuff on it again. Dance should be out soon and so should Living Ornaments 1979.I wonder when Cars is due out again?

5th August 1999.

Well the inevitable has happened... Gary has announced that he is finally to do a concert that is close enough to my home town for me not to ignore. In November this year there will be one last show of the millennium to be held in Manchester. I have not been to see Gary since the EXILE tour, which didn't impress me much, and I have read very mixed reviews of what people thought about the recent "ONE OFF" shows, however, for the sake of the website if nothing else, I have parted with the £16 for a ticket, which by the way is the most expensive ticket price for that venue that is on sale at the moment. Actually, to tell the truth, I am quite looking forward to it as there should be some new stuff to be heard, after all, the "new" album is due out in February 2000 so it is an ideal opportunity for him to test out some of the stuff he has been doing for the past two years or so... Mmmm, how many times have I thought that before? Probably getting on for Tweneee-Six I should think!
On another subject, the latest issue of ALIEN, the Gary Numan Magazine, came out a short while back with a few pics from the "Cars" video shoot included in it. There is the latest news and part one of a feature called "Tubeway Army - the early years" with quotes from people who were around at the time. Hey, here's a thought, could there actually BE a "Tubeway Army - the later years"???
There is a small section on sampling and a bit about Nash The Slash in there as well. To be honest, I don't think I like this new look fan club mag as much as the old one. It seems to have lost its familiarity, if that's the right word. There seems to be quite a bit in there that isn't really about Gary, but rather about people who have at some time in their lives been associated with Gary to a greater or lesser extent. I can appreciate that it may have been too much work for Gary's mum to do on her own, but I do think the original newsletters were better.
Well, that's all I can think of for now. I will try to update more often in future. Maybe, maybe not.

4th June 1999.

As Gary has been out of the U.K. recently, there is quite a lot that has been happening. He has been to Vancouver, Canada, new home of the Numanarchy In The U.K. co-founder "Ade Eyeudye", to film a video with the band Fear Factory. They have done a cover version of, yes you guessed it, "Cars". Just what the world needs, more cars. Is there any decent band out there with the bottle to put out something a bit more daring? If I could play or sing or was part of a band and wanted to do a cover version of one of Gary’s songs, I would want to do something that hadn’t already been done to death by about twenty-six people. You can say I’ve got crap taste if you like, but I really liked Dubstar’s version of "Everyday I Die". I know it wasn’t like it was on the Tubeway Army album or the way Gary does it live, but surely that’s the whole point. Of course, I haven’t heard the Fear Factory version yet, it could be the Ferrari 355 of the Cars world for all I know. On the other hand, it could be just another Lada, much like Dave Clarke’s was.

Gary has now been officially signed up to Eagle for another album. Phew, I was starting to get a bit worried about that one. But what’s this I read? It isn’t going to be released until next February?!!

Oh bollocks! Here we go again. Is this the same album that Gary said would be out in about August 1998 at the time he released "Exile" or have I missed one? I remember him saying that when "Exile" came out he had quite a few tracks left over which would either become single extra tracks or would go on the next album which was already underway at that time. They haven’t seen the light of day yet. I remember really enjoying Exile as an album, but at the same time, being more than a little disappointed that it only had eight new tracks on it after waiting for it for three years. I really hope we get more next time. The old excuse that you can’t get much more than about 45 minutes on a vinyl album are somewhat redundant nowadays. If people still want to pay £10 for a scratchy, hissing piece of plastic, then that’s their look out. Why shouldn’t you get more on a CD? Recent CD’s by Alanis Morrissette and The Verve have had well over an hour on them. Does anyone agree, or am I just a moaning old bugger who doesn’t like paying out?
