NEWS19th January 2000. Well, somebody certainly seemed to upset Gary & co before Christmas,
if Tony Webb's section on NuWorld was anything to go by! I was quite shocked
by some of the things he wrote so I decided to have a look what it was
all about. I checked out the AFENET section where fans send in their views
etc., and was surprised to see some people REALLY having a go at Gaz.
I know I take the piss on these pages, and some of what is said I do think
is valid, but I never expected to read some of the comments that are on
there. 15th November 1999. The latest photographs from the Manchester Academy are here
NOW! 13th November 1999. Well it's here! The day of the concert. Mike R. Slides and Jeff The Waiter will be there in a little over 2 hours and when it's all over we will be first with a report at about midnight tonight. That is unless he does "Down in the Park" first again, in which case we will leave early and do the report by about 9-30pm. See ya later. November 14th 1999, 00:35 19th October 1999. Thanks to me having access to somebody else's computer, I am able to
bring you this small bit of news. 14th October 1999. The site updates will possibly be few and far between in the coming weeks
as I am updating my computer and I'm really crap at that sort of thing!
04th October 1999. More CD releases have this week transpired...
Just a bit of news on some re-releases. IRS have finally put out their
three Numan albums on CD. Metal Rhythm has single B-sides and the "New
Anger" album remixes of some tracks. Outland has B-sides and My World
Storm re-mixes, one of which is the US promo version which I didn't have!
Actually, it isn't a lot different from the other versions. It seems to
be a cross between the album version and the 12inch import mix. Shame
has the Outland intro on it again, as it did on the Babylon CD's that
came from the fan club. The Skin Mechanic does not appear to be any different
from the original. There are certainly no extra tracks listed on the sleeve.
This seems a bit of a wasted opportunity as I'm sure we would all prefer
the FULL version of a concert than just edited highlights, which still
aren't in the correct order I don't think.
5th August 1999. Well the inevitable has happened... Gary has announced that he is finally
to do a concert that is close enough to my home town for me not to ignore.
In November this year there will be one last show of the millennium to
be held in Manchester. I have not been to see Gary since the EXILE tour,
which didn't impress me much, and I have read very mixed reviews of what
people thought about the recent "ONE OFF" shows, however, for the sake
of the website if nothing else, I have parted with the £16 for a ticket,
which by the way is the most expensive ticket price for that venue that
is on sale at the moment. Actually, to tell the truth, I am quite looking
forward to it as there should be some new stuff to be heard, after all,
the "new" album is due out in February 2000 so it is an ideal opportunity
for him to test out some of the stuff he has been doing for the past two
years or so... Mmmm, how many times have I thought that before? Probably
getting on for Tweneee-Six I should think!
4th June 1999. As Gary has been out of the U.K. recently, there is quite a lot that has been happening. He has been to Vancouver, Canada, new home of the Numanarchy In The U.K. co-founder "Ade Eyeudye", to film a video with the band Fear Factory. They have done a cover version of, yes you guessed it, "Cars". Just what the world needs, more cars. Is there any decent band out there with the bottle to put out something a bit more daring? If I could play or sing or was part of a band and wanted to do a cover version of one of Gary’s songs, I would want to do something that hadn’t already been done to death by about twenty-six people. You can say I’ve got crap taste if you like, but I really liked Dubstar’s version of "Everyday I Die". I know it wasn’t like it was on the Tubeway Army album or the way Gary does it live, but surely that’s the whole point. Of course, I haven’t heard the Fear Factory version yet, it could be the Ferrari 355 of the Cars world for all I know. On the other hand, it could be just another Lada, much like Dave Clarke’s was.
Gary has now been officially signed up to Eagle for another album. Phew, I was starting to get a bit worried about that one. But what’s this I read? It isn’t going to be released until next February?!! Oh bollocks! Here we go again. Is this the same album that Gary said would be out in about August 1998 at the time he released "Exile" or have I missed one? I remember him saying that when "Exile" came out he had quite a few tracks left over which would either become single extra tracks or would go on the next album which was already underway at that time. They haven’t seen the light of day yet. I remember really enjoying Exile as an album, but at the same time, being more than a little disappointed that it only had eight new tracks on it after waiting for it for three years. I really hope we get more next time. The old excuse that you can’t get much more than about 45 minutes on a vinyl album are somewhat redundant nowadays. If people still want to pay £10 for a scratchy, hissing piece of plastic, then that’s their look out. Why shouldn’t you get more on a CD? Recent CD’s by Alanis Morrissette and The Verve have had well over an hour on them. Does anyone agree, or am I just a moaning old bugger who doesn’t like paying out? |
