Completely Unsubstantiated Rumours

(from unreliable sources)

Welcome to this new section in which we take a look at some of the more unusual stories about Gary that have come to our attention here at Numanarchy in the UK Headquarters. As you may gather from the title, we can not guarantee the validity of any of the stories in this section. Because of this, we can't be held responsible for any future disappointments you may feel as a result of any of these items not coming true.
We know from past experiences with the UK Phonelines that this has happened before and it is for this reason that articles we are not too sure of will be entered in this section rather than on our news section.

Gary to be involved in new "Doctor Who" movie

The first of our completely unsubstantiated rumours involves the ongoing saga of the long running British science-fiction series "Doctor Who".
For those who don't know, the series started in 1963 in England and ran for an amazing twenty-six years before being effectively cancelled by the BBC after the 1989 season. An attempt to gain American funding for a series in the mid 1990's resulted in a 90 minute TV Movie starring Paul McGann. This was shown in 1996 but failed to be taken on as a series.
Since then there has remained a healthy interest in the show resulting in a long running series of books, magazines and other merchandise, as well as a new series of audio adventures on CD from a company called Big Finish. There have also been many press reports about a new film that would be co-funded by the BBC and hopefully an American production company.
A recent press report in the UK said that plans were now being drawn up for a multi-million dollar budget movie that was to start production some time later this year.

OK, enough of the background info, where does Numan come into it all?
Well, of course, it is all rumour at the moment, but there is a story that Gary Numan has been asked to produce the music for the film, including a reworking of the original theme music, and may also be considered for a minor role as an alien.
Judging from his somewhat awkward performance in the Hunting Venus TV film, I can only assume it will be a non-speaking part! (Sorry Gary!)

Gary has yet to confirm or deny any involvement in the project and with the UK and US tours coming ever closer, is unlikely to make any announcement in the near future. The BBC themselves remain as enigmatic as ever when it comes to Doctor Who. The last comment they made stated that no firm plans had yet been drawn up, but that's what they were saying right up until about two months before shooting started on the last film...

One can only speculate in these circumstances but there are a few small facts that might prove to be more than coincidental...
One name associated with Doctor Who for more than a decade is Gary Russell. He is the producer of the highly acclaimed Big Finish Audio Adventures which, with the recent inclusion of Paul McGann in the lead role, are seen by many Who fans as the long awaited twenty-seventh series. Gary Russell is the ex-editor of Doctor Who Magazine and the author of a number of novels and factual books about the show. It has been said by many people that the quality of the audio adventures was so high that Gary Russell would be an ideal choice to have more than a passing involvement in any forthcoming Doctor Who, whether it be a movie or a new look series. In DWM, he occasionally dropped in references to Gary Numan by using song titles as headings in his writings. His first novel, "Legacy", actually used Numan song titles as the chapter titles for the entire book...

With Gary Numan's profile being increased over the last six months or so and an uncharacteristically high critical opinion of his recent work, who knows just how much of this could actually be correct? Good luck is all I can say. Just as long as they don't have him playing a Dalek!
